Get to the Gig Files: Two DBU Shows and an Elephants Banger

Apparently I do solo shows now. And I guess I do them fairly frequently?! I don’t know how that happened.

Anyway, I played this gig at UnchARTed in Lowell on June 28th. It was a real rad space, and it’d been a while since I’d been to Lowell or done a show there. So it was cool! Settler and Idling were really good bands that I’d never seen before and they’re definitely on the come-up so please go check them out. Also Nunzio from Knock Over City did a solo acoustic set, and while they are a rockin’ band when they’re plugged in, I never realized how sad their lyrics were until tonight. You learn something new every day!

Ahhh Lowell!
Damn, Lowell, looking picturesque!

We did get to see Knock Over City shred full-band on July 3rd when Elephants played with them at OBrien’s, our hometown spot/second home. We were by far the least heavy band on the bill, as Slow Death and Bedtimemagic were the other two bands. But everybody was super rad and I’m glad we finally got to do a show with Bedtimemagic (because let’s be real, they have the best band name ever).

HAI! Here we are on a sign!

Just when you think you’re full up on gigs, I did another DBU show at OBrien’s on July 13 with some real rad friends and it was a great night. The stacked bill included:

My good bud and collaborator Conor Maier!

The unbelievably fucking talented and amazing Missile Girl:

The man himself, Lee Preston:

And Trevor Overshiner, who played some super beautiful John Fahey-like acoustic songs after not playing in front of people for a really long time:

I have to thank Ryan for being such a rad bandmate and coming to the show and also snapping this phone pic of me playing. It was a good night for me! I played along in time to my tape loops for the first time ever, which is a challenge because one of them is in an indiscernible time signature and is not easy to count or start/stop the loop in the right place. I also did a Ted Leo cover, which I pulled out in preparation for my Halloween solo cover show (OK, the cat’s out of the bag now)!

I was sweaty.

That’s all I’ve got for now, but Elephants has a hot gig at Great Scott on August 1st, so I’m very psyched for that. Expect more cool gig reports in the very near future!

Love and guts,
